Timing
If you can give us advance warning of a publication that you would like us to index, this naturally helps with our planning. We can also respond to urgent requests and rescue indexes that have been started by someone else.
Information
Ideally we need to know from the start the space available for an index (number and length of lines) and the style required. A sample of a previous index helps, particularly if you have your own house style.
Proofs
It is important that the proofs are far enough advanced for the pagination to be finalised. Any major changes (e.g. adding or removing paragraphs or illustrations) after we begin indexing can consume time and add to costs. Global repagination, however, (whole pages added or removed at any point in the text), we can handle quite quickly. PDF proofs may be sent to us electronically.
Keeping in Touch
We will contact you to discuss any points of style, and confirm the expected completion date once work has begun. Please keep us informed of any relevant changes.
Delivery
Indexes are dispatched by e-mail, usually in Word .RTF format.
