Getting the best from our services
Timing. If you can give us advanced warning of a publication that you would like us to index this naturally helps with our planning, but we can also respond to urgent requests and rescue indexes that have been started by someone else.
Information. Ideally we would want to know from the start the space available for an index (number and length of lines), and the style required. A sample of a previous index helps, particularly if you have your own house style. Click here for commission form.
Proofs. It is important that the proofs are far enough advanced that the pagination has been finalised. Any major changes (e.g. adding or removing paragraphs or illustrations) after we begin indexing can consume time and add to its costs. Global repagination however (whole pages added or deleted at any point in text), is very much easier for us to cope with. PDF proofs may be sent to us electronically.
Keeping in touch. We will contact you to discuss any points of style, and confirm expected completion date once work has begun. Please keep us informed of any relevant changes.
Delivery. Indexes are dispatched by e-mail or delivered as hard copy with disk.
Cost. Quotes offered on request. Our mission statement emphasises a policy of combining value for money with high standards of work.
"What is not so well understood is that an index is a device for providing access to information" Nancy C. Mulvany
